I find, that nothing compares to a floor cleaned the old-fashioned way, by hand, on your knees with a bucket of soapy water and a rag... That way you can get into all the nooks and crannies that a mop just won't reach. Of course, now I will smell like Murphy's Oil Soap the rest of the day... But that can't be helped... Sometimes, housework can be theraputic. You can always tell when I am stressed out or unhappy because my home will start to get frayed around the edges... First, I stop doing the laundry. Our clothesbins overflow, and there are piles of clean-yet not put away clothing everywhere. There will be crumbs on the counter, and dishes in the sink... Little bits of thread and yarn, and smallish scraps of cloth will have made their way into the living room, and toys will be in odd spots, waiting to make themselves known in painful ways... I like to hide when I am feeling down... I just avoid anything that will remind me of the stress in my life... Luckily, I can only live that way for a few days... A week at the most, and then I start cleaning again... Sometimes I rearrange the furniture... Well, more often than sometimes-often enough that my mother will come over and ask who is sleeping in which room tonight. I love when the carpets are freshly vacuumed and the tracks from suction are still visible. I love when my tables shine, and the whole living room smells of orange polish... I love when the dishes are done, and the sink and counters gleam. I love when there is rising bread in a covered bowl on my stove. I love when my bed is freshly made and I can look forward to getting into the clean sheets that night... I love organized cupboards, and stacks of canned goods... And that is the start of feeling better... Things you can only learn from movies and television... If I see one more little winky... |
