Its Alive.... It is isn't it?

Hannah and I aren't even that good at keeping the houseplants alive so we didn't want to start with a guinea pig or hamster...

And besides Daddy says we can't have one...

Sigh...

So we have decided on... Wild Yeast...

We made a sourdough starter... It is like a pet, in that it is alive and you have to feed it... Its basically flour and water mixed together to make a batter, and then left to ferment on the counter for a few days... Once it starts foaming and gets puffy, you stick it in the fridge and its done. You just have to feed it once a week or so, and you can use it to bake bread. No more buying commercial yeast.

Easy right?

If people have been doing it forever and ever, it can't be too hard right?

Unless you are a paranoid OCD freak like myself...

Its supposed emit a beery, or sour but not unpleasant smell... I keep sniffing it... It doesn't smell bad... Well sort of but not really. It certainly doesn't smell good...

And is it frothy enough? Too frothy? Is it puffy enough?

I just keep second guessing myself... I keep looking at it... I think it might be ok, but I have trouble trusting my own judgement sometimes...

Its kind of puffy and scary looking... I'm afraid it's going to climb out of its bowl and come get me... I'll wake up some morning and it will be laying beside me on my pillow... All jiggly and blob-like...

Maybe it will be a movie... "Attack of the sourdough monster..."

No... That would be silly wouldn't it? LOL

Its probably fine though... After all, it is called SOURDOUGH.

Which is kind of self-explanatory...

What else was I expecting?
